updraft on chimney

hi.......... iv'e just had a new fireplace fitted ( its a log effect gas fire with wide opening ) and the updraft in the chimney is a hell of lot greater than my old gas fire. i'd like to reduce the updraft ( too much heat going up chimney ) can any one recommend anything. would a cowl help ?

i follow your thoughts, but it isnt technically CO until tested and confirmed as CO, POC's from complete combustion is CO2 & water vapour, but you are right if he reduces the flue it wont be long turning into CO

OP leave well alone, IF your RGI fitted it properly then it is the size it needs to be
 
Point taken Kirk. I just err'd on the side of caution.

I have never teleganed a gas fire that came inder 100ppm. Most are designed with poor aeration to produce incomplete combustion. ;)
