Kitchen - Cutting Kickboards Around Skirting Boards

Hi all.... can anyone help me pls? I'm coming to the end of my kitchen project and just have 3 kickboards left to fit. Unfortunately, to make them a tight / neat fit, they all need to have their ends moulded into the skirting boards.

The skirtings are builder std items, which are mostly flat, with a couple of curves at the top, approx 13cm high.

I could cut the skirtings off, I suppose, but it's going to be very tight getting under the fitted units to do so. As such, i'd prefer to profile the ends of the skirting to suit, if that's not too difficult.

Any ideas?

depending on your tooling,

cut the skirting off with a multimaster

if you dont have one you will have to scribe the plynth, with a jigsaw and downcutting blade

if you dont have a jigsaw a good old coping saw

As stated cut the skits up to the plinths.

Unfortunately I don't have a Fein Multimaster, and would prefer not to cut the skirts off to be fair... kickboards are easier to replace should the need arise!

Following research, I've been considering getting a Profile Gauge, Coping Saw & file, to closely match the kickboards to the skirts.... a bit manual bit it looks like it would do the job... maybe??

tip

cut the plinth several inches longer than you need to allow several mistakes
get an offcut or short bit off skirting you can temporarily remove

check for lean on skirting you are scribing to visualy or with a sliding bevel

use a workmate workbench or kitchen table protected by a table cloth sheet or blanket coverd in ply/mdf clamped on

hold the skirting at the correct angle against the plinth and mark with a sharp pencil

if you have only one or two probably quicker to scribe in situ unless very awkward

Thanks for the tip Big All..... nothing in this house is stright and checking for lean is v.important!!
