Whirlpool AWM 820 won't fill or empty.

Hi Guys. I wonder if anyone can help? This started with finding the old machine sitting quietly with the drum still full of dirty water long after a wash cycle should have finished. Didn't seem like it was going to be a major problem but after draining it I found that it wouldn't fill either. There is hot and cold water pressure at the inlet valves but they just don't open. I think the interlock is ok, the motor runs to wash and and spin if you turn the the programmer dial, but it just won't fill or empty and it seems like too much of a coincidence that both of these functions failed at the same time?

Filter /pump blocked .it won't fill when there is water in the drum ,filter is at the front under kickstrip.

Thanks but it's not that rocks1. There's no water in the drum, I did say that it wouldn't fill after I drained it.

I nursed it through a few rinse cycles to get the washing finished by pouring in clean water through the door for rinsing and then draining by lowering the waste hose. It'll agitate and spin if you turn the programmer but the inlet valves won't open and the pump won't run.

Check the pump is not jammed ,test itwith a contiuity tester make sure it's not open circuit

When I opened it up I found that one of the wires feeding the pump had fractured at the connector. Fixed that in five mins, happy days!

The filling problem was due to the interlock. When I checked the switch for continuity it was intermittent then failed completely, one hell of a coincidence.

One other lesson learned. Don't remove the door seal from the drum on this particular machine unless you absolutely have to. Just don't

It did one wash ok, but during the second one the bloomin drum stopped turning. No wash, no spin.

The death sentence was pronounced by swmbo, on the machine not me, and a next day deadline was set for point of no return. Fix it next day or it's gone...

Drive belt still intact.
Motor brushes still good after 15 years.
Continuity across motor field coil and rotor... Erm...
Visible wiring looks ok.

Sat the motor on the floor and hooked it up again, this time it springs into life. Catch sight of a little flash from a (manufacturer) taped up section of the wiring loom followed by a wisp of smoke. Yay! Opened it up and found no broken conductors but some insulation worn through. Another free fix and the machine lives again
