how do i access and read my pdf files?

how do i access and read my pdf files? i've loaded some pdf files onto my pc but where they are i dont know. Also, do i require Adobe to read them? i keep getting pop-up's telling me i need Adobe, if i do need adobe how do i get it? Is it free?
I've only recently got an old pc and i'm computer illiterate, all advice on a watch my lips basis please.

thanks for the reply but i'm no further ahead. i can't understand the adobe site. Q's such as which programme would be suitable for me - how do i "get it" - whats the cost.
And whats happened to the pdf files that are already on my computer?

You need a PDF reader.
Adobe offer a free reader, but try to sell you Acrobat to allow you to create/manipulate PDF files. You just need te reader to view PDF files.

The link above is for Foxit PDF reader. It is free, but they will try to sell the 'Pro' version, just like Acrobat.
Foxit reader is smaller/quicker than Adobe reader.
After downloading, you need to install it on your PC.

To find the existing PDF files on your PC, click on Start/Search and search for *.pdf
Star dot pdf searches for all files ending with .pdf
