Need to move the room stat in our house as it's right next to a radiator. Running a cable through to the other end of the hall though is not practical so I thought I'd give a wireless one a try (only needs to reach 4m down the hall).

Anyone tried the salus rt500ft model? We have one at work and it seems to behave perfectly well but wanted to check if there are any horror stories?

There have been a number of threads on here from people struggling to install these. In most (all?) cases, it has worked after trying a few different wireless address codes. I haven't experienced any problems with it.

You should read up on how this controller actually works to see if it suits your needs. There is effectively no on/off function, merely a set of time zones each with their own setpoint temperature. If the room temperature falls below the setpoint at any time 24/7 then the heating will come on. You can have the same programs for every day, or a different set for weekdays and weekends, but not different settings for each individual day. There is a "frost" override that effectively puts all the setpoints to 5C until you switch it back, and also a sleep mode that turns the whole thing off. You can also override the current setpoint temperature manually, but annoyingly this only lasts until the next time zone starts, which means your override could run out five minutes after you set it. You may know all this if you have one at work.

Really useful, thanks. The bit I did not realise is that it isn't a true 7 day programer. My wife works part time so it would be better if we could set it up to be 20 degrees all day on those days when she is at home and 10 degrees when she is not.

Can anyone recommend a decent 7 day programable 'stat that allows true day by day programming?

Cheers,

I'm pretty sure that's right, although they do keep changing these things. It tends to get described as a "7 day" timer, or having "5/2 or 7 day options", which could easily give the impression of different settings for each day, but it's actually the same setting for all 7 days. There is a jumper on the back that sets it to have different times for the weekend.

I have this programmable stat in my home.
As of yet I have had no problems.
Trained many an octogenarian to use them.
And the price is good.

I think you're right. I just grabbed a Salus RT500RF and set it to "7 day", then it let me set different times for each of the seven days. I didn't gr through all 35 time slots, but certainly for Sunday and Monday.

Thanks for that. Sounds like it will suit my needs nicely.

I realise the CMT927 is basically the rolls royce but I've read a good few reviews for the salus (and the one at work seems ot work fine) so I might save myself a few quid and try the salus.

Cheers,

I used to fit the salus on all my installs but after fitting the honeywell would never go back. For the sake of £30 you will definately find your life easier using honeywell.
