I hung one roll of laurence llewelyn bowen paper last week on a very hot day. As flat was empty , I had to lock up/close windows when finished. On my return today, the seam gaps seem to have opened up slightly. Any suggestions as to why. I am thinking heat/unaired room. Second point - how to rectify without stripping off. The paper has a silvery/gold background with red flowers. The seam gap now shows cos the wall behind was white. Thanks in advance.

This problem can happen for a few reasons, due to the quality of the wall paper / paste, not using enough paste or correct application of paste, not brushing the paper out correctly when hung and not using backing paper. The wall paper you have hung has shrank a little whereas if you had used? backing paper this helps stop shrinkage. Depending on the extent of the gap imo your options would be to re do it all with backing paper first, some manufactures of paper you can buy a wall paper pencil to shade in any gaps. Its a fine art hanging wall paper well, ive had the same problem in the past. Hope this helps. [/b]

The most common reason is when the paper is left to soak for too long, the paper has expanded too much and then contracts slightly when hung and begins to dry out. Always follow the manufacturer's advice on soaking times.

Thanks to you both. I have timed other previous paper to 5 mins (as label states) - then when on the wall vertical creases appear! Soaked for 10 mins and was ok. This particular paper said 5 mins Min so I gave it eight - then it shrinks. Cant win!!
