hi all, i am thinking about block paving my front garden for car access. I want to do it with permeable blocks so i do not have to go down the planning permission route. Looking online it states you need to use mot type3 hardcore as a sub base to allow the water to soak through easily, but i cannot find anywhere in or around my area that supplies type3 hardcore. Is there any alternative to using type3 hardcore?
any comments much appreciated

Why are you dithering about p.p.?

I have never seen paving, that is truly porous and that will last.

Anything that allows water to pass through will allow the garden of Eden to grow into.

Do it once and do it right.

whats your issue with the drainage. You only need to stop the drive draining to the highway to alleviate the need for planning permission. Most of the permeable systems are expensive

the issue is the drive has to slope towards the highway due to house being sited approx 18inches above the kerbside. Drive will be 6m long, would i get away with installing paver channel drainage at the bottom of the drive soaking away into the garden, maybe digging out a trench 1ft x 2ft deep and filling with gravel and abit of soil on top to cover it up

thanks for your helpful reply

Yes. Your best bet would be to stick to "original" paving and install a drainage channel:-

thanks alot guys, you have saved me alot of cash and hassle getting type3 hardcore. To confirm, for a 5m x 4m driveway would a 1ft x 2ft deep soakway filled with gravel be enough for this size of drive, or should i go bigger. It will be at least 4m away from the house aswell.
thanks again

A typical soakaway would be 1m deep and a 1m square and needs to be 5m from any building or highway.

arh.... ok so that is that plan out of the window as was going to put it near the end of the paver drainage channel. Can you connect standard pipe to paver drainage channelling so i can run it under ground slighty below turf back towards house, keeping it 5m away from highway and probably 4m away from house, it would be approx 1m away from neighbours fence then though, is that ok

Sorry to bring this post up again, what was your solution to this drainage channelling? Im in the same boat at the moment.
