vaillant vcw 242 EH not working on central heating

If you're having to make the diverter microswitches yourself then the valve can't be pulling inwards fully. This will be due to air or a blockage in the small copper capillary tubes.

There's also a pump differential valve which is situated on the gas valve and operates using the same principle as the diverter valve. If this isn't has air in it too it won't fire the main burner.

So you can see how important air/blockages are to these little copper capillary tubes, hope this helps.

Is'nt there a AAV on top of this boiler ??
If it is the one I think it is then take the air out there manually and it should be fine . It's like a tyre pressure point, you have to push the pin in to release the air.
I hope it sorts it for you, let us know ;)

Hi I have the same problem, The story goes....

No DHW so i found a hole in the water valve below servo ,change for new ,hot water now works. ok but since draining the system the diverter valve moves when the CH is switched on but moves away from both micro switches, which at rest only makes contact with one ,which i think is right ,the pump works and the fan but it doesnt ignite ,does the diverter valve move inwards to activate CH? is so its moving the wrong way?? any ideas.

sorted it the servo valve above teh water valve wasnt going back enought so i have fitted a new spring.

It's not the spring mate it's the plunger that is pushed by the diaphragm. Usually leaking from the gland the plunger corrodes and doesn't slide properly in the guide so it sticks in hw on.
