Gents n ladies,

I have got to build an entrance ramp from the roadway to a carparking area. the difference in height is about 1000mm lower in the carpark. In the area just next to the higher bank (road) there are privet hedges. So if I cut these back to ground level there will be approx 1000mm height of hardcore and tarmac sitting on these roots.

Do I need to get these roots out or can I cover them with something? They are deffinately not going to grow through the built up ramp.

I have drawn a sketch of what I mean, but i'll be buggered if I can work out how to attach it to this message!

Thanks,

James.

You really need to remove at least 6 inches of topsoil from the whole bank/hedge area assuming it is soil, and to be honest you'd be better removing as much as possible until you hit something pretty firm.

You can't simply pile hardcore onto it and compact it down.

they will rot and eventually leave voids, leading to the sub-base sinking. guess what happens next! remove them.
