cable size

Hello.
2, 3 or 4 core, it kind of depends ;) .
Care to elaborate ??

Good grief. That is like asking, what size tyre do I need for a car?

What is the wattage of the lamp, is there only one, or are there several?
What is the distance of the lamp from the fuseboard?

supplementary questions:

How will you switch this on?
How will the cable be run? Buried, perhaps?
What will it be buried under? -lawn, flowerbed, roadway?

Hello.
How are the lights to be switched ? Eg one way, all together,PIR etc.
This will enable us to determine how many conductors you require .
Is RCD protection 'available' ? Are they going to be on there 'own' new circuit , or 'tapped off' an existing circuit ?
Could you not cleat the swa to the wall ?
Could you post a pic of the lights perhaps ?
Dare I mention Part P ?
Why not just call a registered spark and get the job signed off/tested etc properly ?

You could use 1.5mm twin core SWA cable but I always used 6mm minimum as smaller cables are easier to damage and don't have as good of an earth.

It will need testing and also under Part P you will need to inform LABC and in real terms it will be cheaper to employ a registered electrician as the LABC charges are biased on a £2000 job minimum so start at £100+.

what core cable do i need for a garden lamp post
not too deep its against a wall so no one will dig where i lay it.will i need 3 core.
Given the total lack of understanding of how circuits are wired, how to choose the right size cable and what the Wiring Regulations say, do you honestly think that you are going to be able to comply with P1?

dont you ever give up michael....

just live and let live.....

you might enjoy life then....
