Not Quite sure what to do with this, basically the archway started to come apart due to the wall sinking ( not enough concete under it to support??)

was worse today, and getting dangerous, as the postie usually leaves big parcels behind the house, dont want him to be killed by falling archway so...

take down the column, re-dig and pour the footings, then build it back up..

unless you're skilled at brickying, your gonna need a bricky for this..

One of the most common failings is the fact that the restraining pillar is not 'man enough' to resist the push of the arch which looks like what has happened in your case.

Inadequate foundations will not help either.

If it were me, i would lose the arch and make good both the house masonry and the fence. Then fix the gate to the house whilst latching it onto the new fence post.

Use 100 x 50mm timber knock-ons to secure the ironwork, i.e. fix one to the wall and one to the new fence post.

If the gap is still to great, buy a new gate!

your arch is a little shallow, pushing outwards as well as down so as said above it's pushed the column out..

Thanks for the replys,

I'm not skilled in bricklaying at all so may take down the pillar, rebuild the fence (needs doing anyway) and sort the wall out.

Can I just carefully take the bricks out without the wall falling down? Is there enough support? will prob need to take about 10 bricks out looking at it, luckily got some spares from the arch...

Thanks

we had a lot of rain 2ish years ago, and it ran off the feild (other side of the fence), most went down a drain in the street, and some poured down the driveway and puddled up in the archway, was a good 2" deep, prob sunk from that!!

thanks for help everyone
