leak from guttering above conservatory...cant reach it !

hi all, i have a steady drip from a leak in the guttering above the conservatory..( steady drip....like chinese torture ) but without scaffolding etc there is no way to reach it...i have tried to put on a bitumen type paint onto the leaking joint with a brush attached to a pole by leaning out of window but as the guttering was already wet it would not adhere properly...i now will leave it to dry completely but when it does is there any type of thick adhesive/filler i can apply ( witht the same method as above mentioned ) that i can cover the whole joint with which would dry almost straightaway with no drips ( as i need a black adhesive for the guttering & any drips from it drop onto conservatory roof)...any any ideas suggestions would be really great....it is driving us nuts :) many thanks in advance

Unfortunately even if it worked it would only be short term. Water just somehow finds a way through the globbed seal. Is it a lean-to where you could try and board it safely to get up there and change the joint?

Maybe put something on the conservatory roof just to dampen the drips so it doesn't drive you insane? :mrgreen:
 
can 1 panel of the conserv. roof be slid out to get a ladder through :idea:

If you have any space each side you could put a small scaff tower each side of the conservatory,then put a youngmans staging board across the gap.
 
should always remove joints in gutters above conserv before its built to avoid this problem...when i advise customers they reply "it will never leak as its new gutters" :rolleyes: and they always seem to be south facing which ages gutters 5 fold and more importantly the rubber seals....you cant tell em anything ;)
 
hi again...it seems that the best option is to remove a panel from the roof ( as i am not 100% sure how to do this ) i have uploaded some pics of conservatory roof & where leak is IN MY ALBUM) hoping someone can tell me how to remove a panel to get a ladder in then...i wish someone had pointed out to us before about not having gutter joints above a conservatory..but no-one did..so once again guys any help would be really appreciated...many thanks in advance

hi, thanks for the reply but what do you mean by "rag" them out ? do you mean if i try to take 1 or 2 those bars off..ie remove them to slide a panel out they will snap/break ?..sorry to ask but have no idea what "rag" means...thanks

Sorry, Rag is my Brummie technical term for "Trying to rip the barstewards off"

If the bar slides towards you then Bob's your Uncle but if you try to rag I mean lift them off it will be a right PITA (Pain in the ar.....e)

You could always try one of them, see of it moves mate :)
 
For what it worth, I would put up scaffolding, just done my sister similar to yours cost £200, then renew all the guttering length then maybe changing the fascia boards to upvc then forget all about it?

yep best idea...and dont forget no gutter joints above or not in the middle at least ;)
 
hi guys, thanks for the replies ,info etc..but i really cannot afford at the moment to arrange for scaffolding etc to be put up...my son in law who is very tall ( but not heavy) could reach the leak easily from the roof of the conservatory...my question now is is it safe to stand on the conservatory roof? ( i dont mean on the polycarbonate but the bars..by crawling up & spreading his weight over at least 2 bars ..i know it is not advised but i have read on several forums that that guys weighing over 14stone plus have managed to do it safely & without causing further problems..i am grasping at straws now as i really cannot afford the scaffolding etc etc...many many thanks in advance
 
Is there a sealant rubber underneath the polycarbonate sheet? if so, you can remove this then the tap the roof sheet down from the top with a small board and the sheet should drop down slightly then pull the sheet out without removing the top glazing bar.

If it's like the picture below a flat sealant then you can't do it without removing the top bar
