Hi all,

I am a newly qualified engineer in the Yorkshire area who is looking for more experience in the industry. Can anyone assist as I am finding it difficult finding employers willing to take on new engineers. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I am based in South Yorkshire and I did indeed do my training at MET UK. The theory training was okay but I feel I am lacking practical experience to be classed as a competent engineer. I am looking for any avenues to broaden my experience and have attended some boiler courses that were available to aid my cause.

no chance mate too many fast track qualifed people about no one i know will go anywhere near them.

anyone reading this dont fall into the trap of handing 6k over.

no jobs in this industry. you will only get a job with a big company if your apprentice trained and have full Nvqs not mickey mouse ones.

even if you manage too bluff your way no one is offering a good wage these days due too fast track trained people driving down industry prices

sorry but this is a fact.

Did MET find you a work placement, or do you have to find your own? Did you get Gassafe from the courses?

I did get a work placement and am fully Gas Safe Registered. However, I am looking for more experience.

how can you be gas safe registered and be short on experience? i thought the whole idea was these new boys had to do about 50 jobs before being let loose on probation?

its madness  no disrespect intended, but how can someone with limited experince advertise to be a gas engineer when he is not! the customer is none the wiser when he/she accepts your cheaper price. how can gas safe let these people on the register without at least 2 years working for someone. they need to answer this without laughing and saying "its not about the money" they dont care about safety they only care about £££££££££ . joke this trade now

ha ha ha who do they think there kidding, while where in the gutter there in there holiday home in florida because some dope fell for that! ha ha

At least your honest and have the sense to know you have limited experiance, some overconfident twonks with limited experiance think they know it all ! its those kind of people who are dangerous.

Experiance is the key and you only get that by doing !

The truth is there is no shortage of gas fitters/ plumbers nor has there been for several years, simple economics of supply and demand mean lower prices !

All these training centres play on peoples aspirations and hopes promising a great income a new begining of a great career working for yourself. The truth is if your not already established youre going to find it hard, its not so much doing the work as getting the work, and getting it consistantly (anyone can work for peanuts).
My suggestion is to work for an employer if you can, keep knocking on doors. All the best.

Then at the other end the trade has vastly experienced tradesman giving up their gas work because of the ever increasing gas safe registration fees.
You are right it's more about the money than safety!
