SWA Junction box?

Lots of threads on here talking about outside electrics and saying that SWA should be terminated in a weatherproof metal junction box.

I need to join 2.5mm 3core SWA into a 13a switched FCU that is already fitted in my kitchen as a spare.

My next door neighbour's electrician simply cut the armour off the SWA and took the tails through the wall into the FCU. I'd rather not do this.

Would it be better to drill a big hole through the wall and terminate the SWA in the backbox of the FCU, or to use a short strip of 2.5T+E taken outside and joined in a weatherproof junction box.

The problem is it seems very difficult (if not impossible) to find a weatherproof metal box!! Does anyone know where they can be bought?

Otherwise, would this do from TLC:

The question now is, if a metal box isn't available, how do you correctly connect the earth of the armour cable?

Thanks,

I would use the T+E to get to the outside, then use a galv "U" box with lid and gasket to joint the SWA. Install the U box with the entrys pointing down and use a stuffing gland for the T+E with a shroud and terminate the CPC onto the earthing point in the box. Use a CW type gland and shroud for the SWA and use crimped connectors to make the joint.

It is possible to use the MK water proof boxes, which are plastic, but then the banjo-eylet must be used for earthing, and care taken not to damage the plastic during tightening.

Does that mean you shouldnt take a 2.5mm T&E from a fused spur and connect via chock block (Live, Neutral and Earth) in an IP66 waterproof JB? Other end connected to an IP66 waterproof double socket?

use an ip56 gewiss box, 4x4x2 size.

or use a newlec 'hensley'(spelling) plastic box with terminals and 20mm knockouts.

Metal adaptable boxes are not waterproof, and although galv conduit boxes are not bad with a gasget, 'dog ****' compoud still needs adding if using them.
