Silverline Tools?

Good morning grafters,

Has anyone got an experience with Silverline tools? Are they up to the job? I've got a mate that swears by them but it's the age old question of you get what you pay for? e.g ok so they are fairly cheap, but will they last or will I end up buying more than 1!

Also their website looks like they only deal direct with the trade, I have found a few of the range at http://www.*****.co.uk/ and when I emailed the guy he said he could get anything from their catalogue...

your thoughts please?

theyre crap. apart from things like string lines etc that wont break, they are a complete waste of money

Ok, well that pretty much sums that up! lol. Thanks for your opinions guys. Can you recommend a fairly decent manufacturer on the 'budget' end of things?

90% of the range leaves a lot to be desired , but some of its not too bad. ie the diamond mortar raking discs , less than £20 for 2 and they last for ages
generally though , spend a bit more and have a tool for life

1m SDS drill bits 3 in a pack one 12mm, 16mm and 22mm ish): have had these for a while and great @ £22

Plastic pipe cutters @ £5 are a bargain and keep going for long enough

They are in the same line as Rolson 'tools'. Some of the pound shop bargains outperform this tat. If you want to do any serious work get some decent tools.

I have 1 hole to drill through an 18" wall, if a silverline will do it and only that 1 hole before it knackers then thats fine by me.

BUt in general if using them you sort of factor in that they will only last for one job.

some of their stuff is crap though its dangerous. i bought one of their cold chisels that just splintered after a few hits, sending steel chips everywhere. Some stuff is worth it, but the majority i dont touch any more

Silverline 40watt soldering iron. Tip 50% worn after just few a minutes off use I will not buy another product from them absolute rubbish. There is no way off contacting them that I can find to complain.

I left my combi square at home one day, so bought a silverline one for a couple of quid... it was so poor, the numbes were actually printed on back too front

Was given a Silverline pressure washer (633777) for Christmas and it is total and utter bobbins. Of precisely zero use whatsoever. Assembled it with the eager determination of someone seeking to de-cack his decking. Followed assembly to the letter turned it all on and for 90 glorious seconds all was well.

After that the motor overheated and it packed up. Left it for 10mins as instructed tried again and it grunted, spluttered pulsed a few times spewing water occasionally like a staggering saturday night drunk then died again.

Would not touch it or anything else with a barge-pole. Haven't even got a customer service department with which to register dissatisfaction.

Complete load of old monkeys.

Some pressure washers need running in a little while and can be sensitive to the tap pressure entering them so sometimes you need to adjust the water tap itself so the pressure isn't too high or too low.

Generally Silverline like Draper and many shop brands are importing basic products from china that are a bit crude to say the least. Some of them are fantastic value and some are unusable. Its important to see reviews from other people before purchasing. Silverline is featured on amazon and thats a good place for reviews of them.

The good thing about Silverline is you get a 3 year warranty for piece of mind which is rare for these imported products. They offer a lifetime warranty for hand tools etc.
