plastering
and getting baby stuff

quote] also im not quite sure what you mean push away,

Once you're away from the wall you lay your trowel full of render / bonding on to new laths and push away from yourself and back over
the work that you have prick up or just laid on, this will stop it peeling or dropping off.

Steve, are you saying that you raked out the laths after you took the piccie so that you get that mushrooming out effect above the laths? Did you PVA the laths?
not quite sure what you mean by mushrooming effect but no i did not pva the laths

Joe meant (mushrooming),,, pushing the plaster through the laths to form the "nibs" that hold the plaster up.

i was never tought to pva laths damp them down yes

Just damp the laths down and brush the pva on, especially around the original plaster edges.

im not quite sure what you mean push away, i treat a wall and the ceiling the same weather im floating or skimming

Have a look at the link below Steve,,
this is what Marshman means by "pushing away",, you're working "back into" what you've put on. You don't drop so much doing it that way too.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dIShYkSZzuA[/QUOTE] cheers for that rc so he was using lime putty? i was taught with that also but on render not on laths so what he was doing in the vid, would be only the one coat?

Ok Steve,,,, but it's the method that Marshy was on about,,,,, in your case, with the bonding coat onto the lath ceiling, start at the far end, and work the loaded trowel back (pushing away) into what you're putting on, rather than pull the loaded trowel towards you. Get it.?

Thanks rc,
that's how I was taught to lay on any float and prick coat over head.

No probs Steve,,,,, you can do it either way really. It's a great trade, plastering, with many different ways of getting the end result. ;)
