Anyone else had dealings with these student dropouts?

It seems that more and more jobs (especially in the west midlands area) are now being put through recruitment agencies.

JW what the majority of people's opinions are on the agencies that work within the construction industry.

A good thing to have or bad etc.

Personally i think they (the people that work for agencies) are a waste of oxygen, they are crippeling the industry.

I can give you "hundereds" of jobs where a carpenter in birmingham is being offered 5.00 (yes friggin 5!) - 7.50 p/h. over the last couple of months and yes were still offering roughly the same when the times were good.

Now anyone who disagrees and actually think they are a good cause for the country, i really do feel sorry for you, in advance :)

Recruitment agencies are ful of people with scant experience of how things work in the real world.
Interviews taken in real life by direct employers are based on first impressions and wether the employer gets the idea that you would be someone they would be able to work with. Your actual experience and qualifications are used as a secondary consideration.
However when you apply through recruitment agencies you are picked on your age first and then if young enough your written qualifications.
Years of experience and personality are not even considered.
They are a waste of space for anyone over 45 currently trying to gain another executive position.
If you do get approached by a recruitment agency don't promise to use only them or don't be afraid to apply for the same position via several agencies.
To them you are a number not a name .
Always go direct whenever possible and avoid agencies.

I find money can be better for agencies, I've worked for agencies for almost a year now and the salary is roughly 7-10k a year more than direct permanent staff.

Well you say your on roughly 7g more then being direct but what about when you deduct the cost of all the pints you have to buy for your agent and again deduct the amount of tissue roll.
I can understand that somedays you will not need as much bog roll then others but surely you need quite alot of detergent aswell just to get rid of the remaining brown stains left on your nose

I can not believe for a second that you earn as much as you say without degrading yourself in someway, no offense.

How else are youngsters supposed to learn their trade? I learn't the hard way through on and off for agencies and then went on to earn a living from them so i can't slate them. I agree apprenteships are better (if you can get one!)

As for going direct i've worked for some real dodgy fu??e?s in the building trade, can't speak for admin work, not done it.

west chippy yep i earn more than direct labour and i am gasman
but i have no job security and no holiday pay but usaly
3-4ph better off and no brown nosing need just get on with mentaly will do

I know what you guys mean, but i am trying to get across that these guys are not doing anyone anygood for the future.

The agency and its staff earn TOO much money for there own good, and i mean seriously too much.

I don't know if you have heard yet but it is predicted that 100,000 construction jobs could go, i am 'hoping' that the majority of these will be directly at the recruitment agencies...i doubt this though.

In my last job, I had to use agency staff as and when I needed them. The agencies I used, were charging the company between £10 an £12 per hour. The agency staff were on the minimum wage though.
Not a bad earner for the agencies.

bench joiners at a shot in the dark?

Just out of curiosity why didn't you/bossman/bosswoman take on a few apprentices, get them to sign necessary contracts and then fook em off when you/he/or even she was done ;)

surly everyone benefits then.
