We're looking to fit a new kitchen and have got our joiner etc all lined up for about 6 weeks time. We've been choosing kitchens and selected a Crosby Kitchen (Canova) which is cream gloss.
A local firm are charging us £4000 for the units. However, a quick search on the internet found a small company in Bradford who are currently offering 20+20% off Crosby. He hasn't got a showroom, just operates out of his house. It's a possible saving of around £1500 which would help massively.
We've spoken to him and he sounds fine. He's talking 2 weeks delivery which will come direct from Crosby.
So what do you think? Should alarm bells be ringing? What can we do to ensure that we don't get burned here?
Also does anyone have any information on Crosby? My vague understanding is that they were bought last year. I'm seeing addresses for them in Aberdeen and Sheffield. It seems odd there is so little about them on the web.

The obvious thing I would have thought is not to part with any money until you have seen what you are getting.

are you talking delivery only, or installation as well?

It's supply only - we can't wait to see the goods before paying. It will be delivered to our home for the joiner to fit.
We would paying a couple of days before delivery I think. But I think that's pretty standard - if I was ordering it from B&Q I would be paying up front too.

what will be your recourse if you pay and it doesn't turn up, or is in some way unsatisfactory?

Recourse if it doesn't turn up - I guess we'll have paid by Visa so could claim it back. Planning to order it well in advance so if anything is missing we can get replacements. The seller said any problems and additional bits can be shipped direct from Crosby at no delivery charge.
What else can I do to protect myself?

Are crosby kitchens still going or as someone bought the name ie: like hygena kitchens which were branded under MFi but now avaible from elsewhere.Do you trust this seller enough to give your card details yes then procede if no then stick with your original plan.

Thanks.
As far as I know they are still going - although the telephone number I have is not available - but that has been explained from my local supplier as relating to the fact the business was sold at the end of 2009.
Not sure how to decide whether to trust this reseller. Was hoping to contact Crosby and validate his credentials. Or get some feedback from customers who had recently installed Crosby. There are other suppliers listed on the web so it looks like they are still in business.

I've done a quick search and cannot find a phone number for this business. There is an address for them and it's Petre Street in Sheffield. There is no phone number listed and the website link does not work. I would be very careful unless of course, you fancy a starring role on "Cowboy Builders"! If you look around now you will find that there are lots of manufacturers offering very good deals because everybody is saving for Xmas so business is tight. For example, B&Q are offering Cooke&Lewis kitchens at half price from this week. Wickes have also gone half price. And there are lots of others too

I spoke to our man today, tbh it seems fine. He gave the number for crosby and details of the distribution firm operating in England. I then spoke to CRosby myself and they were very helpful with kitchen design and also confirmed the distributor and the local seller I have here. I think we'll give it a try.

I have just come across this website by chance and read your posting concerning your doubts about the authenticity of my company. I am the owner of the Bradford company that was offering the 20+20% off Crosby Kitchens mentioned in your posting 17/10/2010. I have been a retailer of Crosby Kitchens since 1977 and although I closed our kitchen showroom in July 2007 I have continued to supply customers in England, Scotland & Wales with Crosby and Four Seasons kitchens. Crosby are no longer in Sheffield but based at The Wesley Centre, Blythe Road, Maltby, S66 8JD, telephone 01709 811106.
I can assure you that my company is genuine and all orders are taken on mutual trust, I do not ask for a deposit and only ask for payment the day before the van leaves with the completed order.
Although trading as Morley DIY, the registered name is Linkswitch Ltd. registered no. 2430213 with up to date accounts files at Companies House and with the Inland Revenue.

Google White Christmas and Crosby  Bing :!: and the result is there[/quote]

Alternatively, instead of using Google for your search, just use BING. ;) ;) ;)
