I currently have a Dimpull pullcord dimmer installed in my bathroom. I'm now wanting to add an extractor fan to the bathroom and I want this to turn on when the light is turned on with a timer overrun.

Unfortunately the current dimming pull cord doesn't have a switched live output to provide this functionality, I've searched a few times and a few people have mentioned that a particular brand has a dimmed output with an additional switched output for a fan which I can't seem to find anywhere, all of them seem to be from the same manufacturer.

Does anyone know where I can get this dimmed pull switch with switched output or an alternative method I can use to have this setup, would it be possible for instance to install a relay on the output of the dimmer to turn on the fan?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The switch you are looking for probably doesn't exist.
A website claimed that the Dimpull one had an output for a fan, but on further investigation, that was wrong.

Either fit a separate switch, or a fan with a PIR / humidity sensor, or the most obvious solution - dispose of the silly dimpull switch and fit a normal one.

While a relay might be an answer, this is likely to cause it's own issues, as relays might not operate too well on the output of a dimmer, and dimmers are not generally designed to drive inductive loads such as relay coils.

Most mains timer fans I have installed work just fine with the output from a dimmer as the switched live.

Don't worry, it'll be fine.

Hey, I've just become an optimist - look my colostomy bag is half full, yippee :(

Thanks for the info, I suppose I'll just have to give it a try and hope for the best!
