A neighbour has just had a boiler replaced and some new pipework has been required. I am sure that the installer has fullfilled all of the gas regulations, but could he not have made a better job from an aesthetic viewpoint? Surely it would be reasonable to expect the pipe to be painted where it runs by the brickwork so it is not quite so jarring? Also can anyone explain as to why such a big spread of cement is required where the pipe exits the wall? As for not clearing up the brickdust...huh.

OK rant over, but should he be brought back to deal with this?

Cuz he`s a gas fitter - not an old school plumber who takes a pride  - That lash up is about par for the course nowadays

Well I’m glad to hear it, Nige. This pipe (is it for condensation?) was painted on our own installation a couple of years back and they were very clean inside the property also. I guess it depends who you get? I still think that if the contractor does not carry out the work then it should fall to the resident to have the detailing work done by somebody else. The rendering in the pic was bright white prior to this work.

That condense pipe should be bigger, or at very least insulated. Modern boilers produce condensate when working, the plastic pipe allows drains it from the boiler. During cold weather this condensate will freeze, thus blocking the pipe. Boiler senses condensate isnt draining then promptly shuts down. There were a lot of people asking here about this problem last winter :!:
