No sign of a lintel!!! Except for the throat lintel. Whats my next move?
Thanks in advance for any ideas.

How much bigger are you going?

Cut a track/box section out and fit your own lintel. When it's set track your opening below and kango it out.

Has that chimney been reflued or are all the block like that?

HiDee205,
sorry for the delay...pc problems!
The current opening is 58cm wide to outside edges of fire inserts x 80cm high to top edge of throat lintel.
Want to open this up to 80cm high x 85cm wide.
Here is a picture showing flue with underside of throat lintel.

the bottom of the flue where it flares out appears to be of metal!

Anybody have any ideas? I have just had a quote of £1057.00 which I simply cannot afford and winter is coming on fast!

HILARIOUS merlin50.
Funny enough I've already got those.
Was thinking more on the lines of lintel type, do I need lintels front to back on either side etc.
