how to fix to ashphalt

Hi what is the best way to fix to a ashphalt roof,i want to reboard dont know wether this is possible or a good idea

Are you trying to say you want to boardover and put a new roof covering over existing asphalt?

Big mistake!

If you didn't mean this, you need to be more specific.

cheers sasroofer, thats what i meant reboard and new covering,but i take it from your reply its a no go ,thanks for that.Out of interest why not?

Any blisters can easily be flattened off.
The asphalt could then be simply over laid in a single ply system such as alwitra.

I have seen it done successfully several times ..

If the asphalt is blistering then its for a reason. Repairing the blows would be a temporary fix, and if you then went straight over the asphalt, who's to say the blows wont raise again, or even new ones appear?

Theother reason not to go over it is the additional weight and stress on your supporting timbers.

I would never reccommend an 'over lay' get it ripped up and renewed properly.

take it off and start again from the roof joists up...in the process you will be relieving your spars of about half a tonn of old roof. once water is trapped in the sheathing felt then it will always "boil" up and form blisters to any felt work on top
