Built by real tradesmen

While I agree that trades probably took more time and care 100 years ago, there is also the attrition factor - bad old houses have mostly been demolished. On the other hand, Brighton's Regency houses are notorious for bungaroosh, built mostly by farm labourers.

I wonder how much the 'local' factor played a part? A local tradesman would have his nose rubbed in poor work for ever after.

Geraint, I still find many ply back boxes on 13th/ early 14th Edition builds (1955-1969ish).
