Hi - not sure if this fits in building or decorating - apologies in advance if this falls in the wrong section.
I've had a good rummage round the googlenet (including a few threads on this very forum) but still a little unsure how best to proceed on this query.
On the outside of our property there was once a gate on front of the house (long gone). Whoever painted it, felt it an unnecessary worry with regards to getting paint on the wall and declined to tape it off.
This has been one of those jobs I've put off for some time (slowly but surely getting through a huge list of 'things to do') but now's the time to focus on this and get it shifted asap...
What I've done so far is sponge with a brick cleaning acid (used on an internal brick wall to bring up clean) then scrub 'viciously' with a steel brush.
No luck. I then attempted to sand away with an electric sander. Again no luck. Rubbed with a likewise brick, but only served to cause a small 'fire'!
I then found a product in a local DIY store (forget the name - 'Home - ****??!!) which for around £10 a tub promised to shift several layers of gloss from bricks etc, without the odour or skin burning properties. Sounds to be good to be true and at £10 a pop I temporarily declined.
The only other option I can think of is to use a bit of caustic soda left overnight?
As you can see from the picture, it's hardly a large covering over the wall but it still stands out a little. These bricks don't look at all porous - they reach up to around 1.5m metres before changing to a more rustic brick to the roof (with 2/3 courses of damp proof bricks around the base).
Any help enabling me to shift this would be most welcome.
