I need to put a double branch into my soil stack near ground level and just wondered if there was a minimum height it would have to be from the ground. It will eventually be going under a floor as i'm extending out where it is, hence the reason it needs to be near to the ground.

Minimum 450mm from the branch to the invert at the tail of the bend at the base of the stack. (Assuming the stack serves no more than 3 storeys).

so basically as long as the bend underground is deeper than 450 it should be ok.

Yes! I think this distance is required to prevent pressure build up in the branch connections when a W.C. on an upper floor is flushed.

It certainly is for that reason ;) so if there is no other wc above - ie. a bungalow - i`ve always taken it that you can disregard the measurement IF you can`t get the necessary depth.

Just one more thing to add to this then. Can you have too many bends as there will be about 6 in the right hand stack and 4 in the left one.

You shouldnt have any bends in the wet part of the stack, other than at the base, where ideally there should be a long radius bend to 'guide' the flow round into the drain and prevent pressure build up when the W.C. is flushed. If you must fit bends (and B.C.O. allows it) then i'd make sure they're accessible in case the worst happens!
