I need to make a groove in the concrete floor slab of a 1960s house. At least 1/8 th inch deep and 1/4 inch wide, and about 600mm long. It does not have to be exact or neat.

What would be the best/quickest/easiest way of doing it please?

I've tried hammering with a cold chisel, but that is very slow. Is there a better way please?

Thanks

Grinder with a masonry blade. Cut the sides of the slot, then chisel the rest out. You might get by with one masonry blade. If it's for a speaker or coax cable, I'd make it a bit wider/deeper to accept a plastic trunking, with a lid.
If it's for a mains cable, consult advice on the electrics forum.

Thanks, I had not thought of that, and I've got a grinder.

I really need to make it bigger than what I said, and if I put it in trunking as you suggest, it could be at least 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch.

With that size, I'm worried about creating a stress point where the slab might start to crack. How thick is the slab likely to be?

Thanks

By putting a groove/slot in , you are actually creating an expansion-joint i.e. stress-relief.

Slab is like to be at least 100 mm thick.
