HI There, My neighbour has just had the soffit, facia and gutters replaced on her house, we both had the half round profile before, now my neighbour has the square profile fitted, we did,'t get ours done at the same time because we are dong it our selfs at a later date, when the workmen left I went to have a look ( well nose ) and they have extended my neighbours gutter a good foot past her facia and soffit, so in effect in comes on to my house by a foot, the real problem i have is the fact that the men do not seem to have used the correct union, ( one that connects two different profiles together), it just appears to be like a strap, my gutter has been chopped so it slides inside my neighbours, so when i look up the top of my gutter has a visible piece missing, they will have used silicone to seal the inside, but this doesn't seem like a professional job to me.Maybe I'm wrong ( you guys say us females usually are ) rofl sorry ha ha. I have taken a pic to show if thats OK, but because I have the light sky behind the gutter the chunk they cut from mine isn't showing up,
I don't want this to cause a problem with or for my neighbour, but when we do ours we will have to play with a messed up gutter, plus i want my neighbours brown gutter to finish at the right place, so my white gutter will start a the right place. what do you guys think

Looks like a complete bodge to me!

They shouldnt have come on to your property (picky maybe but where do you stop with such things) and as you said you are going to be the one who has to deal with any problems at a later date. Certainly does not look like it will last the test of time and if it was me I would be very unhappy and would be talking to my neigbour

Thank you for your reply, and thank you Admin for posting the pic for me.
The men didn't come onto my property, but they took the union that was already there and the short piece of "MY" gutter that reached to my neighbours property, then they put up this brown square gutter a good foot into mine, aesthetically it looks bad, but I thought there must have been a union that would join the two profiles together better than they have done. it doesn't look like it will handle a good downpour, plus this morning I noticed my gutter is now flaring out at the point were they cut it
Have I worded things correctly ? I want to at least sound like I know what I'm talking about.. when they come back on Monday to do another job

where did they tie their horses up? Have a word with your neighbour, although theyve not come on your property they have reached over and affected yours, technically a trespass. Have a civilised word with your neighbour. It would have been cheaper for them to have done it right in the first place

Hmmmm I really don't want to approach my neighbour just yet, she thinks they have done a great job lol.
I was going to tell the company that I want them to put my piece of gutter and union back, as they had no rights to take anything from my side, yes I know they have to touch mine in order to do the job, BUT I'm rather annoyed at the way the joint has been left, especially as its now on my property. and I'll ask them why they didn't use the correct union. the joint used to join round to square... would you tell me what it's called please

I would call the company up and demand they come back and put good, as regards your neighbour, she may appreciate a bit of honesty because to get some one else to put that right will be expensive and who pays? and also as soon as someone else touches it the original firm can waiver all responsibility and warrenty.

You really are digging a hole for yourself through not doing the right thing and also wasted peoples time on here by ignoring their free given answers----not picking on your there Lynn but i hope you can see the point

Freddie I'm not getting another company in, I am going to grab the boss of the firm that did the job, they will be back on Monday....and working in our road for a few days yet. I would like to know the name of the joint that should have been used in the first place, and I am going to insist they put my gutter back the it was before they arrived.
I just wanted a few takes here before I have a moan on Monday, I feel like the wicked witch here at the moment rofl.

P.S I'm not ignoring any advice given here Freddie,( I value it all so much ) I just want to say the right things to them, I, going to tell my neighbour that I'm unhappy, and then the company.

OK the company that did the job have just been, they took the joint off to show me ( it is a square to round) and can't be seen from the outside, he said the reason they cut my gutter is an inch higher than my neighbours new gutter, they had to cut mine to accommodate the strap they used to keep it all in place, he has said he will put my piece of gutter back and make sure it finishes in the correct place, he also told me if he doesn't cut a chunk out of my gutter he will have to put a screw through to keep it all in place, and if it starts to leak NOT to call him, because I didn't want my gutter cut, he said this is the only way to do the job.Surely there is a round to square the correct size
Help what do I say to him when he comes back later today

BUT he may be right because half round plastic gutter IS all different sizes...never been standardised

My thoughts on this.

Can anyone here confirm whether there is such a thing available as a square-to-round union connector?

Looking at the pic...the work is totally unacceptable.

Re: The one inch difference. Did the installers only realise this when they were putting the last piece of gutter in place?.

There must be a standard way of joining square line to roundline...

Hi Mike, the men do know about the difference in size< I live on a council estate... lots of the houses have been purchased ( mine included ) the council put this half round guttering up about 5 years ago, the company are using square guttering on all their jobs, so they must have cut all the half round gutters in the same manner .
I felt such a dope when he took the square to round joint out, it can't be seen from down below, all the pictures of these joints I have looked at actually wrap around the out side of the gutter, so from the ground they are more than visible, what makes mine look worse is.. the cut is much wider than the strap, so i have a 3 inch section of gutter cut lower than the rest of the gutter.

Ok, your gutter is 1 inch bigger than the square line. I thought there was a 1 inch difference in level. Cutting yours is valid I suppose, but they don't seem to have made a neat looking or sound join. The protruding screw looks awful.

Yes, they have some on ScrewFix, which is a popular DIY/trade site.
