Papering to external corner - Peeling?

I'm looking to paper a wall on my stairs, but one end of the 'run' is an external corner - i.e: painted wall to corner, then paper from corner.

Obviously this edge is going to be susceptible to peeling particulalry due to traffic and children - is there any tips for protecting it?

There's no way really of protecting wallpaper where the paper itself finishes "exactly" on the edge of an external corner. The only suggestion would be to fix a decorative wooden corner bead to protect it. You could then either leave it as a natural coloured wood, or maybe paint it a suitable colour to match existing decor.

If you make sure the paint covers a good inch or so of the corner to be papered, you can make the edge of the paper finish about 3-4 mm from the actual corner edge. This is less likely to lift or peel as it would if it was right on the corner. Ensure you have enough of paste on the edge.

The alternative, as suggested, is some sort of angled wood or plastic over the corner.

Thanks, a wooden corner bead might just work...

I also agree that wooden bead will go well. It will give a different look to the corner as well as will solve your purpose.

Nothing looks worse than seeing wallpaper finish on an external corner, and then see a plain painted wall start round the other corner.
