Hi,

I've used expanding foam in the past to fill gaps/holes etc., but have always wondered does it have any insulating properties? I've used Kingspan rigid insulation boards - is this made from the same material as expanding foam - in other words is the 'set' expanding foam providing thermal insulation, or is is just blocking drafts?

Appreciate all replies,

Henrik

It may be the same material, but the manufacturers wouldn't be able to claim insulation properties, or assign 'U' or 'R' values, as they have no control over where or how it is applied.

It's much the same as asking 'Can I replace a structural timber with a piece of wood cut from a tree?

coulnd't give you a u or r value for it, but yes, it does insulate - obviously not in the same league as kingspan, but insulate it does.
