Soon to have to sort out mother-in-law's dripping mixer tap. Its not one of those quarter-turn things.

I want to get a couple of new inserts and get them installed when I go over. However, the thought of trying to get her to take off the knob and measure what lies within is a non-starter. Are there different sizes of inserts or can I safely get a brace of them from the local shed en-route?

TIA

At least 50 different typs available.
Take the insert and the tap head with you to a good plumbers merchants.

Oh good :(

They look a bit like these taps, except they have clear plastic knobs and, being a kitchen, the spout is a longer arching jobbie, if that helps at all

Thanks

My misunderstanding, I thought you said they WERE quarter turn taps
If they are similar to the the taps in the photo a standard 1/2" tap washer should suffice.

Well, it seems not as simple as I had hoped. The leak is from the join of the mixer spout and the base ie where the spout swivels.

How do I remove the spout? I had a look for a grub screw but couldn't find one. Do I have to remove both tap inserts to remove the spout? Not there now or I would have tried this.

Once I do get it off, what am likely to find? A worn o ring?

Normally turn the spout so it is running parrallel with the sink, so not facing you, and lift off!

Might need quite a pull though as sometimes very stiff.

Then just replace the O ring (s)

Good luck
