I've recently purchased a house with a good (approx 9 year old) central heating system.
After purchasing the house I signed up for one of those boiler insurance schemes (Didn't know condition so seemed wise at the time). When service was carried out I was told that their was a large amount of sludge in the header tank. I was advise to have the system power flushed (or at least clean out tank with a vax) as other wise the insurance wouldn't cover the replacement of parts. I can't afford a proper power flush at the moment and as I have no noise or cold spots in the system think its a bit of over kill (I'm also short on money for a few months following the move). I have to fit a tower radiator that was left looking like it fitted when I viewed the house (thankfully pipes are there and close enough so fitting should be within my skills set) - before doing this is it worth running the system with sentinal x400 or x800 for a few weeks to clean the sludge out? I've been told I need to drain system below bottom of header tank before adding it - Is that enough?
Also as a quick aside I have a tap that appears to lose pressure and needs to be opened several times before steady flow is achieved - could this be a lose washer or something else - tap looks new?
