Hi I have a 2 year old EBAC 2000series dehumidifier. It does everything as in the instructions EXCEPT extracting the corrrect amount of water from the air...the windows still have a lot of condensation. We have storage heaters but I wouldn't have thought that would have caused the problem . I thought it was the filter so I replaced it but to no avail. Does anyone know what can be causing this problem ?

Much depends on what temperature the room is at - if its kept on the cool side, the moisture extraction will be minimal. Ideally, the temperature needs to be in the twenty degrees area.
How much water are you extracting per day? Manufacturers claims are made in ideal conditions.
John :)

Hi thanks for your prompt answer. I am emptying the water tank about once a fortnight!!! Prob on average it collects about half a pint a day!
I've just put a thermometer in the hall so will let you know later what temp it is. The condensation problem is so bad I have to wring out a towel with the water I collect from each window!
I have, on asking around, found out that houses that on the left (from front) semi detatched are prone to condensation.. Don't know why ..but both houses either side of me (one adjoining & one across the drive) don't have a drop of condensation at all on their windows.

Seriously, with the low ambient outside temperature you can't really expect to collect really much more water than this...for example, my own Amcor runs 24/7 in my office which is about 12' by 24' with a bathroom at one end.
These days, I get about 5 litres per week. In mid summer, its about 4 litres per day....!
Personally I think its a good idea to look into ventilation possibilities, and see how much moisture is present in the house due to washing lying around, etc. It also doesn't sound if you have double glazing.....

Ebac 2000 series have a few problems

Typically the fan fails (turns slow or is stuck)
The condensor stops defrosting
the matrix gets clogged with dust etc
PCB fails
Compressor mounting bolts and rubbers fail allowing the base of the compressor to rub on the base.
fill level cut out arm on the water tank or de-humidifier bends so causing intermittant operation.

They require 16 degrees ambient air temp to operate correctly

Not a fan of them despite the boss selling them (get around a 30% return rate within a year with all sorts of problems)

Thanks Leccy. My Ebac seems to be in working order. Sounds like it's working well. But just doesn't extract water!!! That's double Dutch ain't it!

I've got double glazing & heating- it's just a damp house ...Roll on Summer..it seems to have been a long old winter this year.
Thanks but I don't think I shall ever get to the bottom of this prob.!!

Remove the filter and run it, does the condenser grill at the rear freeze up at all, it should then go onto a defrost cycle which allows it to defrost and the water then runs into the collection tank or out the rear outlet pipe if used.

Thanks I've done that. There was a lot of ice in the drainage system. I've keft it to stabilize for a few days. his morning the bottom of the filter is clogged up again with ice. There is only a little water in the tank. So still not working... :(

sounds like its not defrosting?. Get the back off exposing the element and watch it for an hour to see if it cycles. The only way a dehumidifier won't work properly ie as yours seems to be if its a weather thing is when its freezing temperatures other wise you should be able to drag out 4L water per 24 hrs at least....

google "dehumidifier not defrosting" maybe?

Hi Matz,
Yes that is what appears to be happening. The bottom 1 and half inches of the element is icing up. Can you tell me how I effect the repair. Thanks . :)

can't Im afraid - I've used these things for quite a while in the past so am used to how they *should* work but couldnt advise on fixing. The elements should frost top to bottom over with light powdery frost and defrost every 30 minutes or so. If they are icing instead of frosting they aint right particulalry so if only freezing at the base.

Why does my dehumidifier freeze up?

A. The coils of refrigerated dehumidifiers will ice up but a sensor or timer will stop the compressor and allow the ice to melt. This is normal but severe icing up can be due to a shortage of refrigerant, insufficient airflow or a malfunction.

Only cost effective solutions we have done with these is if the PCB has failed and its usually on the defrost part is to replace the PCB, or if the fan is failing and replace the fan

As I said though due to the return rate we see we cant stand em.

We dont re gas them anymore as it was not worth it (they usually had more wrong with them)

Hi again Guys.
Thanks for all your time & input on my Ebac problem.. I've decided to give up on the Ebac & invest in a new de humidifier.
Any reccomendations as to what make I should get. The condensation is getting the better of my house.. The cupboards are beginning to smell musty & the walls (if I don't clean them) are getting mould growth on them . I have a small semi detatched 3 bedroomed house. Thanks
