Hotpoint Aquarius WF320G - Stops during wash, no flashing.

Hi all,

I wonder if you might be able to help me with a current issue with my Hotpoint Aquarius WF320G washing machine. About a year ago it had a problem with the pressure switch that was easily diagnosed from the flashing lights on the front of the machine. This time, the machine just stops mid-wash and never finishes. There are no flashing lights although the Door Locked, Wash, and On/Off lights remain illuminated.

Does anyone know a way to diagnose the issue? The machine is four years old and I'd probably rather buy a new washing machine than pay over £100 to get this one repaired by Hotpoint. I've read a few things on the internet and the motor brushes seem like a candidate.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

How will I know if they're worn when I look at them?

Why does this cause the machine to 'freeze'? Does it count how many rotations the drum does and because it stops rotating it never gets to the number it's expecting? I always assumed it was a timer.

The brushes make contact with the motor. When they are worn it breaks the contact hence it stops.

I had a little play with the washing machine and it's showing another symptom. If it freezes in a normal wash cycle and you cancel the cycle then put it onto rinse and spin (to try and get the clothes out in a sensible condition) then it pours water out of the washing powder tray. I can't see how worn brushes would cause that to happen?

Right more info ,filter is blocked then if it pours out of the dispenser

Yep, you are absolutely right. The filter was stuffed full of some sort of fluff. I emptied it out and everything seems good again. I guess the set of brushes that I've already bought might come in useful one day. D'oh!
