I'm not having much look today - first my washing machine and now my cooker!

I have a Hotpoint GW74 which I have had no problems with whatsoever.

A couple of days ago, I noticed that when the main oven is on, the back right burner (think it was this burner anyway) was trying to ignite itself - as if I constantly had my finger on the ignite button.

I've tried googling and looking through the manual but can't seem to find what the fault is.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Update - the 'clicking noise' - as if the oven is still trying to lights itself, is now constantly on when the main oven is on.

The main oven works fine but I don't think it's coming from any one burner, think it's just coming from the cooker itself!

I've had a look at the sensors in the oven but still haven't a clue what to do!

If the over burner is lit you need either a new spark generator or ht lead.
pretty simple for a decent gas safe enginer to fix!

gnerator is about £25 but theres eight versions of you cooker if you post the full model i'll post the part no.

As gasbanni had said or, it may be that your oven burner is partially blocked - thus not sufficiently 'playing' on the rectification probe.
Have you allowed anything to boil over / spill in the oven recently - or even clean it with some powerful oven cleaner that has gotten into the burner?

Thank you so much for both of your replies - it is much appreciated.

To my knowledge, nothing has spilt in the oven and nor have I used cleaners recently, especially not at the back where the sensors etc. are.

I've tried it again this morning and it's still making the clicking noise.

One thing I did notice, when I press the main oven on to operate it, I obviously press it in and turn it and then it automatically lights. I have noticed that the knob itself, doesn't pop out again when I let go of it (as the burner knobs do) and wondered if perhaps this could be the problem?

Alternatively, I will look into the spark generator part and get in touch with someone.

Thanks again!

sounds like the control knob needs a service, removed, cleaned and greased

Thanks for your replies.

I tried taking the control knob off and cleaned it (there was no build up of anything though) and also greased it and it's still 'clicking'.

At least I have been able to use the cooker!

I will be trying to get in touch with my normal gas man in the morning.

Thanks for your help everyone!

gasbanni - it's a Hotpoint GW74K.

I've tried looking for the spark generator but can't find the part number.

Thanks for your help.!

Update - it isn't the spark generator. I bought a new one from Hotpoint, it arrived and my gas man fitted it and it's still making the same noise.

We have now ordered an electrode for it in the hope that it's that. My gas man is abit stumped but he tried cleaning the electrode and it stopped for a minute but unfortunately started up again.

I have my fingers very tightly crossed that it's the electrode so I can have my Sunday Dinner this weekend!!!

Just thought I'd update in case anyone else is having the same problem.
