I wouldn't know, I'm neither. I'll take your word for it though.

Thanks, maybe I should check it out, I've obviously upset some people here!

I am so sorry for any wrong allegations.

What do you call a plumber/kitchen fitter who does not know how to install a 5 meter waste pipe, or how to comply with the regs?

You would call them a DIYer helping out a friend. Nothing wrong with that.
A cowboy is the sort of person who wouldn't take the time to find out what is the correct way of doing things.
I will read the regs myself, just thought I might get some advice.
Thanks anyway

The other thing is do building control want to know about moving kitchens from one room to another? And whose responsibility is it to inform them, mine or the customer?

When you refer to somebody as a customer you should not be surprised if people interpret that as working for financial gain in stead of doing a friend a favour.
It comes across as somebody on the dole who earns a few bob cash in hand. Or more than a few bob.[/u]

I guess so. He is a friend but he is paying me for my time so that does make him a customer.
I've checked and the work is notifiable with building control as it is change of use. Furthermore I will get a qualified plumber to do the plumbing so it is compliant. FYI the electrics are already all being taken care of by an NICEIC electrician.
I understand you guys being protective over your trades, so the criticism is fair, if a bit harsh, and taken on the chin.
