can anyone suggest what may be wrong with my boiler , the problem i am having is the boiler is making a high pitch whine once it gets upto temp this whine goes away if pump is turned down from 3 to 2 but on doing this when you turn on the hot water tap the burner wont fire up , turn the pump back to 3 and CH and HW work great but whine starts again when its making this noise it stops when turning on hot water tap anyone have ant ideas

thanks

This is a little odd because if its ketttling then turning the pump down would make it worse.

In front of the boiler the cause might be immediately obvious. But at the moment in front of my keyboard based on your words I cannot be very sure.

DP on here places this model as his all time favourite. If he looks in he might be able to offer a suggestion.

Thanks for the redirection Tony.

Kecal, your boiler will not run for hot water with pump set to 2 or 1.
If you have thermostatic valves, open them fully and try again.
Also, when the whine is there for CH, does running hot water (regardless of the boiler firing) stop the noise?

You MUST have one radiator that should not have a TRV on it and should remain open for flow of primary water (bypass)

Get the boiler serviced properly and this boiler will provide good service.

hi DP
thanks for reply , yes whine stops when turning HW tap on ,it only whines when pump at setting 3 and when at setting 3 there is no problem with HW, i have thermostatic valves on all rads except one which is always fully open do you think it whine may have something to do with the diaphram ? as it looks like there is a small leak where the pin come out of the housing that has the small diaphram in it the one to the left as you look at boiler

open more radiators. Fit a room thermostat for ambient temperature control. Or fit a bypass.

if there is a leak them almost certain there will be other issues that need a pro to attend and repair. Overhaul/ repair on this boiler (unless many parts required) almost always is money well spent (my view only as a heating engineer wo repairs boilers and will replace if needed)

hi

by opening up more rads does this not defeat the purpose of having thermostatic valves to control each room, whats the bypass you mentioned? also the thing is until recently i never had thermostatic valves only a room thermostat but found that when the area that it was in got to temp it shut system down before other rooms got to required temp leaving most rooms upstairs cold in winter also would you travel to livingston as this boiler probably in need of some servicing

When this boiler first came out there was an issue with the O ring on the by-pass bobbin that caused a whine. Sounds like you have the same problem. Replace the bypass bobbin, O ring, flow diaphragm and front seal, job done. Like DP said great boiler
