Indesit D41 Drainage Problems

Hi,

I've just inherited an Indesit Slimline D41 dishwasher. I put it on for the first time last night, all went well until the rinse period when I noticed foam creeping out of the side of the door!

I checked the waste pipe which was hooked over the top of a kitchen cabinet and water was not being pumped, I checked for kinks and bends and only if I laid the pipe at floor level would any water pour from the pipe.

I'm new to dishwashers - any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Rob.

Follow the waste pipe into the base , drain pump is blocked.

Thanks rocks1.

I have removed the side panel:

I take it the pump is the blue square housing with a blue and a black wired connection?

where do I check for a blockage - should I remove the clip around the waste pipe? I tried this but could not get it to unlock?

Thanks again,

Rob.

Yes that's the pump , use a pair of pliers or water pump pliers and squeeze the ends together and the clip slides back , then theres 1 screw holding the pump on after that pump twists off. Don't loose the black seal between them. Check the impellor is not jammed in the pump. Then refit be careful not to Break the locking tabs on the pump face.

Thanks rocks1.

I was unable to unclip the waste pipe without first removing the back of the pump - the corner was preventing me from getting any leverage. So now I am left with:

If I put my finger in the white plastic void I cannot feel anything blocking or impeding any flow - I can just feel what appears to be a plastic grill. I've also checked that the waste pipe itself is clear.

So I now have the pump (?) removed from the system:

I am guessing that my next move is to test this - do I put a live and a neutral on the terminals? I am not an electrician so I will not proceed without advice

Many thanks,

Rob.

I put a live and neutral on the terminals and the pump began to spin so doesn't look like that is the problem....

Put it back see what happens a bit of muck might have fallen out.

I put it all back together and it appears to have done the trick. I tested with a rinse cycle and with the pipe at waist level it was throwing water out in a bucket.

I did not see an obstructions when I had the pump off but something has done the trick!

Thanks guys.

Rob.

It seems I spoke too soon. I used the dishwasher this evening and found foam leaking from the front bottom left-hand corner (around the door hinge). The machine then started crackling (sounded like water in an electrical components) before it tripped the fuse box.

I left it for a while, now when I power it up the lights come on the fornt panel, water pumps into the machine but then it just sits there doing nothing. If I open the door there is just cold water in bottom of the wash compartment.

I have another machine for spares so if I can identify what migh be the problem here I will try swapping the paet out.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Rob.
