If you only have small areas that have been stripped and want to seal them and bind the edges this is great but a little expensive: http://zinsseruk.com/shop/Product.aspx?cId=130&pgId=360

If you are doing the whole, area you can use a good quality masonry paint watered down by up to 20% as a primer/sealer or a stabilising solution which is the same brand as the paint you are using.

thanks for the advise ,
getting the paint is a pain any ideas ? at the moment i am useing a steamer and hot air-gun its a bloody nightmare  there are a few hairline cracks which i shall deal with (cement&water) after i jet wash it . I was told to P.V.A the hole area bricks as well (on the bottom) then paint,
Is this the right way to go cheers

PVA is not suitable for use with paint and especially on brickwork. (For those who don't believe, check the manufacturers specs!) You might well get away with it on the pebbledash, but I would strongly advise against using it. A stabilising solution is by far the better way to go.

As far as stripping the paint off the dash paint goes, I'm afraid that it's one of those horrible jobs that takes forever. You are going about it the right way from my point of view. A pressure washer might help loosen some but beware of getting too much water into those cracks!

For filling the hairline cracks I would use something from the Polycell exterior range:

Thanks you been a great help, what sealer is best for the job :?: as i said i am new to this and was told pva can do all used it on the few jobs i done before and never had a proplem with it . outside is a lot differnt to painting in-doors . Getting the paint of is a job i wish i never started

The best I've used is Johnstones Stormshield which is clear and costs around £30 for 5 litres. It is suitable for use with both water and pliolite based masonry paints. There are others available that are white(ish) and give a better base colour for the finishing paint to be applied to.
As said previously, I would recommend using the same brand stabiliser as the paint you are using to avoid compatibility issues, although there shouldn't really be any.

Pliolite resin masonry paints are more weather resistant than water-based ones and are rainproof in minutes. However they can be a little more difficult to apply evenly in warmer conditions and both types generally have a 15 year guarantee now.

When it comes to painting the brickwork, unless you have a very porous brick, or the surface is still flaky, I would just use the masonry paint without the stabiliser. If you have very smooth (not glazed) facing bricks I would stick to a brick and tile paint if possible. Obviously your colour scheme will dictate this as they are generally red or black.

PS. I too have used PVA with paint on pebbledashed/roughcast surfaces but they are not really suitable and I don't use it anymore.

thats great thanks , the people that lived here before put pvc on the bottom half just stuck it on with silicon, the bricks were pretty damp and flaky so a bit more to do yet . I shall keep at it till i get it?TRAIL & ERROR never so die :D thanks a million.
