Hi all, new to this decorating lark (shameful considering my age!)

Anyway, recently moved into a new build flat. The interior walls are painted with an off white which has a yellow hue. I want to paint the lot with Farrow and Balls All white.

So, do I need to use an undercoat, such as F&B's interior undercoat?? The cost is obviously a concern but the best finish is more important.

Hope someone can help as I'm dying to get stuck in over the weekend.

Also, the Farrow and Ball paint says it will do for 70m2, does this include the recommended 2nd coat or am I looking at a 5 ltr can doing 1 coat of 70m2??

Thanks in advance to all.

Have a good easter weekend!

Hello hellboy,

As with all manufacturers, Farrow & Ball will recommend their product for undercoating rather than another. It is a good idea to paint the walls white first though as you will then need less of the finish coat paint to cover. Also yellows are one of the hardest colours to hide.

Personally, I would use a trade white emulsion (far cheaper) as an undercoat followed by the F&B's finishing colour, but would imagine the recommended undercoat would probably be your best bet.

The paint will only cover 'up to' 70m² in one coat so if your room/s are more than this, and need two coats, you will need a second tin. :(

You have chosen a good quality paint BTW.

Good luck with it all. ;)

A happy Easter to you also.

You wont need to apply an undercoat, Farrow and Ball is a very expensive paint and it depending on the size of the area may be more cost effective for you to apply a cheaper brand as your first coat.

The 70m2 is offered as a guide only and the total coverage will depend on the substrate, and also your method of application. Eg the depth of the coats that are applied.

Hope this is of some help to you
