Best way to paint skirting and not the carpet?!

Joe,
You will need to apply masking tape to the carpet edge, the best way here would be to gently lift the carpet and wrap the tape around it. If you just mask directly up to the skirt there is always the chance of the paint creeping through onto the carpet.

Don't know if it's just my eyes (right Dec 
), but it looks as if there is a bit of a gap under the skirting which the carpet goes under. If you can see the bottom edge of the skirting then you might be able to tuck the masking tape under it without the need for lifting the carpet.
As said though, probably my eyesight!!

try frogtape never lets the paint get near what you dont want it too!
