Good evening everyone,
Ive got 5 ceilings with rd145 anaglypta on, and who ever did them before we moved in did areally good job, but, it looks really old fashioned these days.
Is it possible to paper over paper with plain paper or will I have to steam the lot off
Thanks.

no chance of papering over this i would leave it on and give it a good painting if you take ot off you may find all sorts of problems underneath like cracks and also you may take some of the plaster off aswell when stripping it

georgiepie could be right - this paper covers a multitude of sins and I had to re-do one wall in a house with it a couple of years back because the owner didn't want to strip the rest of the room as they knew the walls underneath were extremely bad.

To be honest I thought the paper with it's lined square/triangle effect looked quite retro! (Hope I've got the right pattern there!)

As for using a steamer, you really can damage the plaster if used excessively and steaming a ceiling is a pain in the arris at the best of times. I would score the paper and use a liquid wallpaper stripper or my favourite method of washing powder in hot water. ;)

There is a product available called wallrock Fiberliner, this is a very heavy duty lineing paper, and is well renowned as being one of the best available.

I am not going tell you that it will work in your case, yet I have known it to be used over Artex with good result. Certainly worth considering.
