Hi
New to this forum, so I hope someone can help.
I have a Baxi Bahama 100 combi boiler and it has started to make a loud clicking noise as if a pipe is being tapped by something metal.

I opened up the boiler and saw that the white lever on the side of the Honeywell actuator appears to being trying to move in but then slips backwards repeatedly making the noise.

I removed the actuator head and noticed that it moves freely. Tried pressing the spindle of the cartridge and it was quite stiff.

I have put the actuator back on and we have central heating but as soon as we turn on hot tap then the actuator tries to move and the clicking starts again.

From reading other posts it would seem that a stuck/stiff/faulty cartridge is the likely culprit. Is there a way to test it manually?
If it does need replacing, how difficult a job is it and will the boiler need draining?

Hope I've put enough info on here so that someone could give me some useful advice.

Thanks in advance

Boiler needs to be isolated on flow and return valves and pressure removed.A kit is available to replace the cartridge and comes complete with a key to remove and replace said cartridge. It may be also that the actuator has been damaged.Try the cartridge change first.

It can be cleaned and greased with silicone but thats not as long lasting as replacement although its cheaper.

The system might be rather dirty and if so that should be cleaned as well.

You may find the cartridge is jammed inside. when you unscrew cartdige it will unscrew about 1/2" and then not come any fruther out. Grab spindle with pliers/grips etc and pull. it should pull out. when it does, make sure that the whole cartridge comes out, otherwise a little careful prising with a screwdriver and you can break any parts that jam inside out.
Finally while you'ge got it drained down, change the primary flow switch and give the chamber it sits in a clean out.
TOP TIP. I find a magnaclean test stick perfect for removing any magnetic iron oxide that gets stcuk down here.

DONT TOUCH FLOW AND RETURN ISOLATORS.
Unless you really fancy replaicng these as well. If you let the pressure of using one of the drain offs under the boiler or the prv (but clean seating after), you should find that the boiler /system will airlock enough for you to do cartridge and then FS. Do one at time, and keep a towel on top of your board panel just to catch any wayward little leaks.

Finally. I'm not dyslexic, just pssi poro at typing.

I LOVE BAHAMA , THEYRE GREAT,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Hi, I am new today and have similar problem, I have a baxi 100 bahama, Over the past few months the fuse has been blowing on the PCB and main fuse, I have replaced and OK for a while.

At the weekend I noticed that the threeway valve that I think controls hot water to taps and CH has water dripping from it, not much but enough to seep into big gray actuator box attached to this valve. I am thinking this has caused fuse to blow and the drip needs to be corrected by new cartridge and actuator probably faulty due to water ingress. Does this sound sensible. Could I do it myself, normally use plumber but skint as just moved into house. Any help from experienced plumbers greatfully recieved , many thanks

One point about this boiler, is does not like to be messed with, so what may look like a tiny leak will turn out to be something of a minefield once you start opening it up, not for the faint hearted but a good learning curve if you want to have a go.

Touch something and it effects everything else
