I'm wanting to convert a trailer i have with 12" high sides, by adding a box and roof to it, can anyone suggest any ideas for sheeting to clad the frame i build. I've looked at aluminium sheet but it's quite expensive at 2500mm x 1250mm

yes i was going to use marine ply if i can't find any other options. Only ones i can think of are galvanised sheet, aluminium sheet and someone mentioned fibreglass sheet but i'll have to check on that as i don't know a lot about it. The metals seem very expensive as i'll need 5 sheets to complete the job.

Have a look at pheonolic ply, this is the reddish-brown coloured board you often see used on trailer bases with a slight textured finish. Its basically a good quality ply impregnated with pheonolic resin which makes it a lot more durable and waterproof.

I didn't realise there was that many types of plywood, i'm going to price them up Monday and see whats available. There is WBP which isn't as durable as pheonolic ply, & there's pheonolic ply and marine ply, do you know which is the better of the 2?

have you looked at the metal sheeting that people use on warehouse roofs???

I'll have a look see what i can find, i just typed in roofing metal sheet and found some that looked like square corrugated. Is this what you meant or do you know of any flat stuff?

Does it need to be a solid skin?
I was looking at doing something similiar with my trailer but have steered away from ply or metal sheeting and am looking at a lightweight frame carrying a tilt sheet , the sort of rubberised canvas tarpauline for want of a better term, seen on pretty much every other lorry or lgv trailer. I suppose I'm after something that is versatile and doesn't raise the centre of gravity too much and easily removable for when I need a simple flatbed .

it depends what you are going to use it for and what is going to be in it. if it going to have something heavy then i would have solid sides (ply or metal).

I'm using it for karting so there will be a bit of value inside so would like some security. I've managed to find some aluminium composite panels which are supposed to be really good for the job, they are £40 each for 8x 4 sheet 3mm thick and come finished in white.

I would follow jasons advice. Professional factory built trailers are often fitted out with phenolic ply floors which will illustrate how appropriate it is for the job
