My fuse box has tripped and all the lights in my bedroom is not working, I tried to untrip it but it then springs back into trip mode. I've got a memera 2000 fuse box. I think the cause may have been a lightning strike, which had recently occur. Can anyone please help me?

I could partially untrip it(the most left switch only move halfways) after I switch off the red switches on the right(main power) but when the red switch is turned on, the most left hand switch will be back to its position now.

Hi Daniel and welcome to the forum.

Are you saying that the MCB in question will not return to the on position, even when the main switch is off?

If so, I would say the MCB is shot.

But I'm no electrician.

If you cannot untrip the mcb (left switch) when the main switch (red switch) is off I would think the mcb is damaged and would have to be replaced.

There could still be a fault somewhere so I think you will need an electrician.

Edit - must learn to type faster.

Sounds like he can turn the MCB back on, but it trips when the main isolator is switched back on - this is to be expected if there is a fault on the circuit.

You should really get an electrician to find the fault, and not keep turning the MCB back on onto a fault - this will eventually damage the MCB.

Turn all light switches off (change the positions of all switches) and try again, if it stays on this time, go around and turn each light on one at a time. Not an ideal way of checking TBH - you should get a sparky out.

The MCB is only travelling half way the OP says. Therefore it is knackered.

If you can and are willing it can be replaced for under a tenner. If the fault persists then call an electrician.

Yes thats true, it does not return to the on position, it only oges halfway. Thanks for the reply.

Then you almost certainly require a new MCB

before changing the mcb, I would firast take a run round the property & ensure all light switches are off then try resetting the mcb.

It might be a fail-safe feature of the MCB, it has been known for MCB's to interrupt a higher fault current than their rated capacity (often 6kA), and break down accordingly.

MCB's indicate this to the user, by either failing to make contact again, or as the original poster has experienced, finding it impossible to move the lever back to the normal operating position.

Another type of MCB will let you move the lever back up, but the mechanism will simply not make contact, giving a floppy lever effect.
Get the MCB replaced, once the fault is found and rectified.
