When cutting mitres in worktops, do you judge the cutting depth each pass or use the depth stopper and hexbolts. I was going to lower the cutter each pass by eye really as I was assuming the hexbolts and depth adjuster was for actual plunge routing on other work.

you should only ever cut half the shank size in depth which would be 6.35mm but call it 7mm to permit you to do it in 7 passes rather than 8 if its 44mm
I usually do the first pass at about 6mm depth then use a jigsaw to cut the worktop the waste side of the cut, then route the rest as normal. Saves a lot of wear on the router bit as its only cutting one side of the worktop in the jig.

yep jigsaw is a top tip but you must be sure its a sharp blade and wont wander and tuck under
in other words no cheap jiggys unless you know it cuts strait
