This is a slightly odd question, but I'm wondering if anyone knows of a central heating timer/control unit that requires a key to be operated?

I'm asking for a charity who own a building with a large number of facilities users. The current control unit is in the kitchen and everyone who uses the building has access. The problem we are having is that people leave the heating on and change settings because it is not locked.

I know that it might be possible to put them in a locked cupboard, but that could be difficult so I was wondering if anyone has heard of a key operated control unit for this kind of situation?

Thanks.

the quickest way to resolve this is to buy a metal lockable key box, cut the back of it out to accomodate the size of the timer then fit the box over it and lock it, easy peasy

I need to do this for Mrs RR; every time I go out she turns the flippin' heating up to 22. Why are women always cold? A bit of energetic hoovering would warm her up.

danfoss do remote sensors so you have your sensor in the room and the controls for it in cupboard/boiler house

or if you get a programmable room thermostat no mater what how much you turn it up it will revert to programmed times and temperatures at next programmed time this is what i have and my mrs cannt figure out how to program it she turns it up and an hour later it has reverted to previous setting i just tell her it broken

mine is a danfoss tp5000 and is battery powered so can replace a standard thermostat with no wiring problems

i wouldnt have thought it would work very well well trapped in a small box

would you? :(

The last one I saw in a church hall was mounted inside a small key press with a pattern of small vent holes drilled top and bottom. Some larger holes drilled in the front of the door allowed user access to the 'advance' and T+ / T- buttons only.

You need a second set of controls then - one set hidden away and controlling the system, and another set on display, but not connected to anything, just for the Mrs to play with.

link the wires in the back of the stat and turn the boiler stat down, then tell her to fill her boots by turning it up to 30, after 2 weeks she will be happy and wont know it is actually only 19 as she will seee the dial at 30 and be roasting, same as your granny turning on the bulbs of the leccy fire and feeling warmer

when i read the OP i read that it was a timer, so im quite happy with my solution as a timer will work very well locked in a metal box, however as you are talking about a stat i agree that it wouldnt work inside a metal box

Grasslin do a stat that has half hour time slots and also can be locked within the menu but can be bypassed if you know which buttons to press. So if someone overrides your preset program it will only be for half an hour. You can also limit max to something sensible and also do an offset so they think they are setting higher than it actually is.
