masking tape the frame and gun the mastic, when tooling/fingering the silicone thinly overlap the masking tape. remove the tape and it will leave a nice line

but something has been used to get a straight line

Nope, most pro's won't have the time or the inclination to mess around with that, like i said years of experience, for the DIYER or Ametuer, then fine you could do it, but with a little practice you can get good results without using tape.

Wrong, if i'm sealing a white window with brown silicone then i use tape, sometimes i'll leave the protective tape on and seal over the top of that then i peel it off, this is the only way to get a nice clean line but if the OP is asking how you seal plastic to plastic like when you seal around trims then yes its years of practice and experience

Yes if brown on white then tape but if white on white agree with Adrian.

Agreed, however i have seen brown on white with silicone tools and no tape, but either way, it will work.

Stick by my first post, patience, and years of experience.

yes its white upvc with brown silcone, it does look like there used some type of tape but how have there built up a 2 to 3 mm with clean edge as masking tape would only afine edge to finish

The 2 or 3mm build up is as a concequence of not pressing on too hard when running your finger down it, press on too hard and you get a fine 1mm edge but then you'll have no real thickness of silicone on the frame.

Hope this makes sense :D

posted this subject some time ago. ive seem more upvc windows were brown silicone is so neat and finish of great. the ? im trying to find the answer to is how do there a build up on white plastic, its looks like to me something has to be used more than tape. Tape will only give a straight line
unless there using a tape which is 5 mm thick. the build is always on the the white plastic side

The build up is just the thickness of the silicone and it'll vary upand down the frame, its just there because they didn't press on as hard when fingering it in, the straight edge is just created by the masking tape as you peel it off.
