Noisy plumbing

My neighbour and I live in detached bungalows.We have a common stoptap outsid the boundary walls and we both have water meters.
When he gets up in the mornings and goes in the bathroom we get a dreadful nlise in our roof
Why should this happen and how do we do something about it ?

Water hammer I understand, but why should we get tje problem from thedetached house next door and most of all - can I do anything about it ?

Because your service pipework is linked in this way, the noise is travelling through them. If you had seperate supplies, this wouldn't happen. To correct this, you would need an independent supply.
