Which Paint for Exterior Windows

Don't rate crown, I've used their emulsion and it was crap.

If you haven't used Crown Solo - butt out.

I didn't say I hadn't used it.

And no, I dont take orders from dicks like you.

Well how did you find it then? Why talk about emulsion? Are you drunk?

I found it streaky and didn't cover as well as dulux or Albany.

If a paint brand is crap, it covers their whole range (IMO) b&q value as an example. So I steer clear.

No I'm not drunk.

Beginning to think you are tho, or on something else.

Yes. Tell them it's just not feasible to use Satin. They won't thank you when it begins to peel after a long winter. I tried using Dulux Satinwood outside once - but it proved hopeless. (It was on my own place).

All the properties in that row are gloss, ill tell her that gloss is more waterproof and use the Trade WeatherShield Gloss ive used before.

If you'd have been as helpful at the beginning this thread wouldnt be 4 pages long.

I know...odd isn't it.

It was a quiet night.

BTW, Crown Solo won the Which Magazine 'Best Gloss' award.

If you've used it you will see why.

Only used it a couple of times, I usually use Dulux Once if time is an issue.

Is Solo as good in your opinion and will it cover in one go?

I have a house of windows to paint, a stone listed cottage. These have to be white and have previously been painted in white gloss, they just need freshening up.

Joe has given you the best advice you'll ever get for your requirements here.

It's an absolute dream to use - self undercoating - nice and thick - not ****y like other glosses so don't confuse it with them.

Best paint on the market.

Report back when you've used it.

You owe him.

;)

I am not a lover of Crown paints, but Solo is something else easy to apply and has outstanding covering power. A better name for it would be liquid gold.

So why did he have to be such a coock about it?

Blimey....

Sikkens rubbol satura can be used as an exterior finish.

Cant say i agree with one coat on an exterior re-dec.

I personally don't like crown solo, i like my paint on the thin side, the thick gloopy solo stuff is hard work applying and your forever loading your brush up, doesn't always cover in one coat either, although with two coats its a good finish. I would much prefer a good undercoat and trade gloss on top

I can understand your point here and you are not alone there are a great number of Decs that wish to avoid Solo, and I was once one perhaps the very thought of a one coat system goes against the grain. Anyway another choice here could be Superdec.

Agreed.

You will get the best performance out of trade paints.

1 -2 coats of undercoat, then gloss is the professional way to work.

Very nice opinions but not the slightest bit of help as to what the original poster wants to do with 20 windows and 2 doors.

If you had read the post you would of worked out that what the op customer wants isn't possible, if they want it to last.
