Oh you mean the Plus. The oil based one?

Never tried it. Is it good?

And can it be painted directly onto a previously glossed window frame?

I think the whole sikkens range is the pups nuts, don't use much else these days although i have moved to the BL primer undercoat and BL satura (rather than the one above) for interior work.
Mainly because the primer/uc is quick drying so i can u/c in the morning and top coat in the afternoon. They are hybrid paints and the only decent ones i've found away from the 2010 debacle over oils. Sikkens will be releasing Magura which is a hybrid (ie non solvent) gloss soon, i'm really hoping its gonna be good cos i can then pretty much kiss good bye to solvent paints in my work

Yep well prepped windows would be fine, but i'd put the BL primer undercoat on first for a couple of reasons, firstly to act as a binder and create a good medium for the satura to bind to and secondly it would prime any bare spots and filler. That said i would try and steer the client towards a gloss finish like sikkens XD but i wouldn't be to worried if they wanted the satin

Apologies not BL primer the onol which is now called rubbol primer plus

Blimey....

Sikkens rubbol satura can be used as an exterior finish.

Cant say i agree with one coat on an exterior re-dec.

I personally don't like crown solo, i like my paint on the thin side, the thick gloopy solo stuff is hard work applying and your forever loading your brush up, doesn't always cover in one coat either, although with two coats its a good finish. I would much prefer a good undercoat and trade gloss on top

Agreed.

You will get the best performance out of trade paints.

1 -2 coats of undercoat, then gloss is the professional way to work.

Very nice opinions but not the slightest bit of help as to what the original poster wants to do with 20 windows and 2 doors.

If you had read the post you would of worked out that what the op customer wants isn't possible, if they want it to last.

There you have it rustybolt.
This guy thinks it's impossible

Listen to Dec and Joe. You'll do good.

I was going by the information of other posters.

Seems it's still limiting using a satin finish outdoors.( in terms of durability)

Yeah its not the best for durability, like i said i'd try and steer the client towards the XD. A few years ago i did around 70 exterior sash windows with it and its all still good i'm told, and those windows were absolutely fooked

And were these previously coated?

Did you use an undercoat first or did you manage it in one coat of XD?

How does it compare to WeatherShield Gloss?

This has turned into a good thread.

:p

Undercoated with onol as it was then called and top coat with xd, some windows with a lot of filling/bare spots or were grinning i gave two undercoats or two top coats especially on the cills.

Undercoat is very important as the most crucial thing about a coat of paint is whats underneath it.

One thing about this stuff though do not overcoat it for at least 24 hours.

I used some weathershield on a garage door and front door last summer and the finish seemed ok, took a long time to dry and the dark grey undercoat didnt cover as well as i would have expected it to, sikkens is better but you pay more for it.
